Kindergarten Readiness Skills The philosophy of our preschool program is that young children can develop a strong self image through the use of positive re-enforcement in a preschool curriculum that enhances cognitive, motor, language and social skills which increases kindergarten readiness. Our day encourages activities in math, reading, science, language development, fine and gross motor skills. We strive in building kindergarten readiness skills by helping them develop positive self-esteem, participate in decision making, adjust to routines and transitions, and to socialize with other children in appropriate ways. They are also encouraged to respect classmates, teachers and themselves. These goals are achieved through a variety of hands-on activities and experiences that address the whole child and seek to make learning fun. Our professional staff ensures that individual needs are met and nurtured in a warm, loving and supportive environment. Kindergarten Readiness Score When a child completes the VPK program, a screening is completed during the first 30 days of kindergarten. The screening measures alphabet recognition, sound recognition, listening comprehension and vocabulary. Once the children from a particular school are screened, the school is assigned a “Kindergarten Readiness Rate”. Officials determine the rate, using a 200-point scale by matching each kindergarten student’s screening scores to where he or she attended Pre-K. We are very pleased to announce that The Learning Center Preschool received a perfect score of 200 on the Readiness Rate. In addition to our regular daily activities, we offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities. On a weekly basis we offer gymnastics and computer classes at the center.
